Restaurant Hong Ngek @ Jalan Tun HS Lee, Kuala Lumpur

One of a restaurant that was introduce by one of my good friend Sue Lynn (BangsarBabe) , that we decided to come here for lunch since its one of her favourite. Restaurant Hong Ngek is one of a signature restaurant around this area which have a strong lunch crowd whereby the food are mostly on homecook recipe that runs by a small family over many years.

hong nyek (1)

Parking here is a pain in the ass as the shop frontage is facing a main road. You ether have to find carpark around Chatime area or the one behind them.

hong nyek (2)

If you do not mind sauna seating area which is quite hot in the afternoon if you are seated at downstairs, or you can have an option to be seated upstairs with air condition.

hong nyek (3)

All our menu was pre-order in advance as BangsarBabe is one of a regular here. So we kick start with Herbal Chicken which is being cook to perfection, chicken meat is soft and not too dry, yet love the slightly thick herbal soup gravy that being cook along. Love the pungent taste of it.

hong nyek (4)

Next is their famous Crab Meat ball, that is finely chopped , mince then deep fried. Eating it with their chili sauce is just perfect.

hong nyek (5)

hong nyek (6)

Another simple dish is vegie fried with “fu yu”. .

hong nyek (7)

Fillet Fish Curry whereby fish is being deep fried for a while then went along into curry to cook again. Its a great dish to go along with rice as the gravy is not too thick, just nice enough for your mild spicy flavour with little sourish end.

hong nyek (8)

This is certainly one of a super highlight for the afternoon which is BBQ Pork Ribs that is cook to perfection. Well caramelize, very aromatic and simply finger licking good. – highly recommended.

hong nyek (9)

While craving for noodles, so end up with this fried glass noodle. Fried with ‘wok hei’ and for a simple lunch with coke, I am done with it.

hong nyek (10)

Deep Fried Knuckle is another signature of this place. This is not the famous German version which I believe its a local version of fried knuckle already. Skin is crips, meat still moist and dip into their special homemade Mongolian sauce is just a perfect combo, finish it with sweet and little spicy end flavour.

hong nyek (11)

I am certainly satisfied with this homecook recepi  version place, although the price is slightly more than any average “Tai Chow” in KL yet its still worth to spend it.

[Repost] Fatty Crab Restaurant a.k.a Fei Lou Hai @ SS24

[Its funny to read back how I wrote 5 years ago]

fattycrab (1)

Out of nowhere my friend, suddenly suggest go eat Fei Lou Hai. Cuz she mention that has been long long time didnt go eat arleady. Her last visit was last year. My last was like about 1 year ago. It was a crave for them last year(their season) can say like the go every 2-3 weeks once but cannot be denied that the crowd there is always full. The best time to go is around 7pm and bad time to go is 7.30pm-9.00pm whereby you have to wait at least 30 minutes for a table(depends on the amount of ppl) usually big group have to wait longer.

fattycrab (2)

This is their favourite ‘Century Eggs’ where they never miss. Taste good for this. Do not know how to describe. Know how to put into my mouth only for this 1. RM 6 each.

I still remember when I watch Fear Factor last year in AXN which this is one of the dish that they have to eat and that host was telling them that this egg had been stored for century already. It was funny that they way how he describe it but turns out to be one of the dish that we are eating today.

fattycrab (3)

One of their famous ‘Chicken Wings. It was perfectly fried with golden brown layer and the softness of the meat in there is still been preserve. The taste goes very well with the cili sauce provided. RM 24 for this with 2 plates of the same amount(cannot remember how many pieces we ordered).

fattycrab (8)

fattycrab (4)

fattycrab (6)

Satay turns out to be not bad. Well marinated and peanut gravy sauce is more towards sweet end.

fattycrab (7)

Knowing that we are all hungry people, so start off with ‘Fried Rice’ RM20 each for this and can you believe that it is a plate for 10 people to eat. After giving every one small bowl, it is just not enough. Can onli fit a small small portion in our stomac. So order another 1.

Never fail to order the ‘R00oti Bakar, looks plain but sure do it is very crispy till like eating crackers on the edge, abit soft on the middle. RM1.50

The purpose of the roti bakar is to eat along with the gravy of the sweet and sour sauce. To make it more interesting and tasty, order a extra bowl of gravy and also request for the chili. Depends on your lvl of spiciness then you mix both of it into 1 bowl and eat along with the roti. Surely you will be satisfied.
fattycrab (9)
Cheng cheng cheng…here comes the main dish of the night whereby every 1 look at it by licking their saliva in their mouth. The ‘Sour and Spicy Crab’ Then we were suddenly told to stop!!!
Yeong trying to check whether the crab is fresh or not by poking on it how she does it I have no idea but she sure do have her own skill as her parents used to run a restaurant before. After QC check got pass from the tester and the crab just gone in seconds.
Cannot be denied that they still have their quality there. The freshness of the crab whereby the meat is hard and u tear it out it is in slices. The gravy of it of course it is spicy, sweet and abit sour. As expected. You will suck every last drop of the gravy on the crab and on your finger but of course a bit disappointed of the size of the crab for that day. It is a bit small compare to last time. Maybe just the season.

fattycrab (10)

Next is the ‘Steam Crab’ which I prefer the most. They add in some chinese wine, and the soup base that had been created out during the steaming process is very nice to be slurp with. You can taste the freshness of a crab in this steam style rather than the spicy and sour crab. Because that style can cover up some bad taste crabs. Total for the crab for 10 person is around RM224

Remarks:

Of course usually if you want to have fresh crabs, it is advisable to go as early as possible whereby they will take from the most fresh to start off with and to the worst. Go early is also to avoid the long wait.

The total bill comes to RM340 inclusive of 5% gov tax. The service is not bad with such a high pace environment they are able to provide you the things as requested.

A very satisfied meal.

[Repost & Updated 15/1/2015] – Ori post is Apr 28th 2009 –

Used to be one of my recommended place for crab and I came back to visit this place again last week and glad I was early to avoid those crazy long queue. Usual, would be ordering those crabs and guess what, the next 2 days 4 of us end up running toilet numerous times. Posted in FB, and a few of my friend also had similiar cases. Price had been expensive and crab serve is not that fresh. WONT be returning again. From ratings of 10, now I give you 5. Now 4 person cost RM 304.

Spring Reunion dinner for Chinese New Year 2015 @ Imperial Garden, PJ

For Chinese restaurant, Tai Thong certainly did nail its name to many folks in Klang Valley with their different brand name under their umbrella. Many of them have their very own preffered choice of restaurant under this group. One of the restaurant is Imperial Garden which is next to Armada Hotel, above the big night club.

As Chinese New Year is around the corner, they do have bookings booked as early as a month before the actual day for reunion dinner.

taitong (1)

For CNY media preview night, we were being pamper with good classic Chinese music, beer and numerous classic stuff at the hallway.

taitong (2)

taitong (4)

In this festive season, the culture of wishing everyone with good wishes certainly spread acroess all races in Malaysia with now all available in many restaurants.

Tai Thong is proud to present 3 auspicious Yee Sang this year. Guests can choose from Double Happiness Yee Sang (Chicken Floss & Crispy Enoki Mushroom) to Golden Fortune Yee Sang (Assorted Fruits & Nuts) and Prosperity Yee Sang (Salmon & Snow Pear).

taitong (5)

The Yee Sangs are available at RM68++ for half portion and RM98++ for full portion. There are additional add-on availables at additional charge like abalone, scallop, jelly fish, tiger prawn and crispy cracker.

taitong (6)

I was so busy last year & this year, which makes this restaurant the only lou sang I did.

taitong (3)

Poon Choy had certainly gains its popularity for the past few years and many Chinese restaurant do include this in their menu now. For this year, Tai Thong is offering two choices of Poon Choy – Golden Treasure Poon Choy and Prosperity Poon Choy. Both Poon Choys are available at RM298++ (for 5 pax) and RM498++ (for 10 pax).

Proper way to eat Poon Choy is to finish the top layer and move towards the bottom of the pot thru layering, instead of digging randomly and create a mess in the pot. However it is really up to the individual how they dip into it.

For this round, I really love their Golden Treasure Poon Choy that is filled with Tiger Prawns, Chicken, Roast Duck, Sea Cucumber, Dried Scallop, Fish Maw, Squid and other vegetables. The best part of this was the pickled mustard leaves and radish braised till super soft and expelling their essence into the sauce. The broth is slightly thick, a very mild spicy end and the sour vegetable is a kick and addictive.

taitong (7)

I am sucker for any Double-Boiled soup base as Chicken Soup with Chinese Cordyceps. Light in taste, yet simple light with aromatic end is something that I always enjoy. I certainly do not mind to have a huge pot of it.

taitong (8)

Sauteed Scallops and Prawns with Asparagus and Fresh Lily Bulbs is fried to perfection as scallops did not over cook, asparagus and celery is crunchy. Macadamia nuts do add the taste of the slight salty end of it.

taitong (9)

Claypot Rice with Waxed Meat.  Ingredients is certainly on the generous side of it and my table  most of us enjoy the variety of sausage and waxed duck is on salty end but compliments very well with the rice. Just wish is slightly burn on the end. 😀

taitong (10)

Another dish I must highlight is this new unique dessert Mini Eight Treasure Rice Dessert is a steam glutinous rice yet bend towards sweeter end as this is a well known dish in Shanghai. The chef pick this new menu from his Shanghai trip previously.  I am not a fan of it but certainly you can give it a try.

For more information or reservations, please check out their Website www.taithong.com.my or Facebook:www.fb.com/TaiThong for locations and contact details.

Ewe Hokkien Mee & Loh Mee @ Perak Road

While on the way back for CNY and my friend mention that, we should stop by one of her favourite Hokkien Mee stall before heading to another location. Of course when comes to food how can I reject and especially when back to Penang.

1

She brought me to this apartment area and there is a small little shop that operate right below it.

2

Ewe Hokkien Mee & Loh Mee is pretty well known among the neighbourhood and often its sold out before 10.30am and this round luck was on my side that I reach 11am and it was the last 3 bowls that I ordered 3 of them.

I would consider Ewe Hokkien Mee is a hidden gem around the area.

3

4

5

Here you go as Loh Mee and Hokkien mee both for myself.

6

Hokkien Mee @ RM 3.50 is pretty good as the most important is the soup and, soup base can taste pork bone and also shrimp shell. It is mild and once I add another spoonful of chili its perfect. Spicy enough to my liking and great.

7

One of the best product is this Loh Mee @ RM 3.50 which is consider going to be extinct soon, as not many places have a pretty good one. I am impress with this as the soup “loh” is starchy and thick enough yet aromatic. Just loving in and recommended!

Claypot Porridge @ Bukit Maluri, Kepong

At times, simple food is really the way to go as I was introduce to this place by my friend quite a while ago. Hidden in this little housing area in Kepong, resides this one whole stretch of mini hawker area and you have variety of “tai Chow’, soup stall and this Claypot porridge is the highlight of the area.

claypot (1)

More pack compare to any other stalls as might coincidence with rainy day and however, this stall is a family run business. .

claypot (2)

A short time operating hours only which is from 6pm-11.30pm only.

claypot (3)

Menu is pretty simple and direct, as all are very decently price.

claypot (4)

Order Mix Pork Small @ RM 6.o0 with add on century egg at RM 1.00 to make it a perfect pot for me.

claypot (5)

Order Tong Chai small @ RM 5.50

claypot (6)

Love the porridge here, whereby they are generous in ingredient, silky smooth like those served in Hong Kong and best of all, they cook individually. Love the taste of it as its pretty strong, add in a little of soy sauce is just perfect.

If you are looking for simple food around the area, I would think this fits pretty well.

I have always bug my friend to join me for dinner at this place as always, time arrangement did not match till finally during Chinese New Year. Often hear them buzz about this great Curry Fish Head in this Restaurant 1998 (kopitiam) that they serve one of the best in their list.

I stay nearby neither did I know that they are well known for that but finally get a chance to try out.

1998 (1)

Restaurant 1998 means did they start up in year 1998? yap, this kopitiam was establish since 1998 and been running well with quite a few well known hawker under this roof.

1998 (2)

One of them is definitely this Curry Fish Head that cook by this auntie. She cooks it individually to ensure the fish taste is enrich in a pot. Curry is being cook aside and just to add on.

1998 (3)

1998 (4)

Besdies that, was told that this Chin Kee Chicken Rice is quite well known among them and we skip this round as they die die would want to have Stewed Duck. It is actually the same owner.

1998 (5)

1998 (6)

No doubt that their stewed duck is awesome. Duck meat is being braised so soft, own made sauce to complement on it and amazingly their chili is spicy yet sourish end. A perfect combo and recommended. this place cost RM 28.

1998 (7)

After a long wait of 30-45 minutes, finally the Claypot Curry Fish head arrive and I only can manage to stop them for mere 10 seconds before they dip all the fork and spoons.

1998 (8)

Fish head is medium size and decent enough as we order 2 pot for a table of 10.

1998 (9)

Curry is rich in flavours, not too thick yet sour enough and generous with ingredient. It is filled with long beans, ladies finger, egg plant, tomato, squid and others. Spicy enough to make you drench in sweat but not numb.

1998 (10)

This is how I eat my Curry Fish Head rice in Flood version or locals call it ‘Kuah Banjir’.

Remark: If you do come by for this auntie curry fish head, she is super slow in serving and cooking. Do have patience for her as we were the only customer at that time, already took her 30-45 minutes and friends mention that she is also famous for being slow .

A nice neighborhood kopitiam with variety of hawker food for you to hunt.

Do try the Taiwanese Sausage here too ..

This past Chinese New Year, I was like unleash the dragon my own hometown where by I move around to hunt some food. Well, back to some places that I have not been visiting long time with my parents is this Restaurant 77 Food Yard were known as Kedai Kopi Kwai Lock where host some pretty nice hawker in this early Pulau Tikus Wet Market Area.

food yard (1)

One of a most busy hawker area where its sardin pack with many hungry people, from people who went exercise around nearby park and with auntie and uncle that just finish doing their morning market shopping.

food yard (2)

To get a place here is like the usual, you need to be quick or stand behind those people that are eating. You need to have an eagle eye.

food yard (3)

Oh well, lets put that aside, as One of a common thing that people whole order is this Famous Koey Teow Th’ng (ah Eng & Son) and also their kuih Chap. Not to say its pretty good but decent enough to satisfy your crave.

food yard (4)

Kuih Kak here is also not bad. worth to try.

food yard (5)

My parents usually come here for this Duck Soup Mee Suar as not many places left that serve this. Apparently they are famous in this kopitiam.

food yard (6)

Run by this couple and its been in this kopitiam for the past 5-8 years and they prepare this clear duck herbal soup in a miniature pot and by steaming it a few hours before its officially serve to customers like us. You can put it in a way like double boil in kopitiam version.

food yard (7)

food yard (8)

food yard (9)

Each bowl serve with duck drum stick and you get to choose what kind of noodle, ranging from Mee sua, bee hoon, mee or mix. I usually prefer mine is mix.

Soup is mild herbal taste, something very simple and light for breakfast and if you do expect strong taste of it, do skip it.

food yard (11)

Was told by my dad that their Curry Mee here is pretty good though and decided to try it out. Soup is with slightly sweet end and by adding in their home made chili paste made it extra umph! I would prefer to add in another half spoon of chili paste to make it extra kick. Decent enough for a simple cravings and I do prefer my favourite in Green House.

Fresh Water Prawn with Curry @ Lim Aik Chew at Nibong Tebal, Penang

My last visit back hometown, this is my very first time to see my dad got so excited to bring me one of his favourite place 15 years ago and he insisted to bring all of us all the way here which is Nibong Tebal. About 30 -45 minutes drive out from Penang Island. The last round my dad visited was exactly 15 years ago and road do change and base on his memory, he was spot on to reach our destination.

Nibong Tebal is a town right before Perak boarder and there are quite many well known eateries around the area.

Aik Chew (1)

Got to know that Lim Aik Chew is famous in this town for its fresh water prawn curry and over weekend its a crazy bunch. I am lucky that I was here on Friday very late lunch and crowd is decent enough. We were lucky that most of the fresh ingredients are running out and we were the last few to get hands on it.

Currently it enter into their third generation which is running this family base eatery.

Aik Chew (2)

Aik Chew (3)

Another signature of this place is their homemade bread.

Aik Chew (4)

Sugarcane is super sweet as there are no add on water. Do try out their Ice Coffee which is pretty good for a very local flavour. Slightly burnt end taste, bitter and sweetness of condense milk do add onto the flavour. Classic stuff.

Aik Chew (5)

Here comes our dish as they are being serve pretty quick. 5 minutes upon our order.

Aik Chew (6)

This is their signature dish, fresh water prawn curry. Cook to perfection as the prawn is super juicy, fresh and curry is thick enough with mild spices taste at the end of it. My dad mention the taste is still pretty much the same. Oh well, its very hard to get the similiar taste after operating for so long.

Aik Chew (7)

Their steam bread is a must order and must eat while its hot. Fluffy soft, tear it and dip the whole piece into the thick curry. Just perfect!

Aik Chew (8)

Fried omelet.

Aik Chew (9)

Another dish to lookout for is their fried fish in 3 flavours (sweet, sour and mild spicy). There are variety of fish to choose from, depending catch of the day. Fried crispy on the outer layer and soft meat inside.

Aik Chew (10)

The village fisherman dock is just right next to the restaurant. That’s how they get all the fresh prawns and fish. Due to demand of the fresh water prawns is high and expensive, the restaurant now do opt for sea prawns as alternative.

Aik Chew (11)

Aik Chew (12)

To locate this restaurant, you can go thru waze as it is located right at this junction. Overall, food is decent and for the price of 4 dish cost estimated RM110 in this township, I find it very expensive. Oh well, just good enough for me to try once, as with that price I can top up slightly more for seafood lunch or dinner at Tambun.

Any hawker food from Penang it seems will be favourite to many. As for now, most of the travellers now can get good Penang food in Klang where Angle Peoh one of the siblings from famous Penang Ayer Itam Laksa as now he have move down to venture new market.

Klang is their new target as where they find similar home feelings like Penang as most of them speak Hokkien.

Dim Sum Breakfast with new items – Black Temptations @ Tai Tong

Fancy of some interesting food over dim sum breakfast/brunch? Tai Tong Group is launching their new seasonal menu from 1st Aug – 31st Oct known as Black Temptations that will feature four of their signature in this menu.

tai tong (1)

Pan Seared Dumpling with Fish Paste and Cheese @ RM 9.80. A great mixture of taste of some saltiness of cheese and fish paste is pretty bouncy.

tai tong (2)

Glutinous Dumpling with sesame paste will be one of a dish that is easy  to consume for ending. Super soft skin yet not too thick as a mild cut over it and you can find the pippin hot sesame sauce if flowing out just like volcano lava. Thick and aromatic in taste. @ RM 6.80

tai tong (3)

tai tong (4)

This will be the hidden treasure of all or many Malaysians will be very curious over the taste and hunt it down. Charcoal bun with Durian and Salted Egg. YES, with salted egg. With many other diners expression I believe 95% have the same reaction. It is not milky or sauce which is thick like the usual custard bun which we believe is the texture of durian that unable to deliver that.

Its a very unique combination when they make it with fresh durian flesh and add on salted egg yolk then steam on it. Pretty strong with durian taste yet with a hint of ending salted egg yolk. @ RM 9.80

tai tong (5)

tai tong (7)

Jelly for kids? oh well, this you might want to take slight cautions as coffee taste its pretty strong in this silky smooth jelly. @ RM 5.80

If you do visit any of Tai Tong Group restaurant over this period, do check their durian and black seasame dumplings.

Yugami Steamboat with Curry Fish Head Soup base @ Sri Petaling

I am a fan of steamboat especially during rainy days. However there is one steamboat place that do really capture my attention which is located at Sri Petaling, this newly revamp place known as Yugami Steamboat.

Yugami (1)

Yugami (2)

Simple casual dining places with modern decor with option of indoor and outdoor which will be more ideal for smokers.

Yugami (3)

Yugami (4)

To me what capture my attention of this outlet is their soup base. Two of their signature which is Curry Fish Pot & Fish Pot.

Yugami (5)

Others ingredient will be the usual and they do have a few items that are homemade which is worth ordering . . .

Yugami (6)

Chili paste is also their signature as we were then thought on their house special sauce mix with a good mixture of their “fu yu” paste, spicy malat chili (do put abit by bit at your spiciness level as it is very spicy) & fried garlic oil.

Yugami (7)

Yugami (20)

This is how it turn out. Indeed a pretty great sauce to dip with the fresh meat.

Yugami (8)

Salted Egg Yolk Squid @ RM 19.80

Yugami (10)

Fried rice turns out to be pretty good as can taste its ‘wok hei’ and pair it with their curry fish head soup base. Just perfect for me.

Yugami (11)

Shrimp Paste Chicken Wings @ RM 7.50

Yugami (12)

Their unique selling point of this soup base as they use more than 20 ingredients and some with their special own mix that the actual soup base is being cooked more than 10 hours to make it solid and pungent with taste.

Theirs is not those typical as upon ordering, they will freshly slice all the fish slices then add in soup to boil it that will take about 5-10 minutes before serving. Then the soup  has quite a good fresh fish taste.

Curry version to me is quite nice as seldom you will find this slight coconut curry taste which is well balance.

Yugami (13)

Yugami (14)

For me, as above would be my top 4 recommendations to order if you do pay a visit as those are made by themselves.

Yugami (15)

Yugami (16)

Yugami (17)

Yugami (18)

If you love pork slices, then its great to add into your ordering list.

Yugami (19)

Yugami (21)

If you do have cravings during lunch hours, then they do have lunch promotion which estimated from RM 11- RM 16 and I find that the portion is very generous.

Yugami (22)

Yugami (23)

It was a fun night as do meet all new people I have not met before.

P8306066

P8306067

P8306085

This is one of their signature item which is fried tua pan. Fried slightly dry yet the texture is amazing.

P8306087

Something clear for the morning is their clear fish head soup bee hoon. Very simple yet great for morning start.

P8306088

Price are from RM 5-RM 10.

P8306094

If you are looking for something simple and clear for the morning to start off with, then this place is worth a try.

Hokkien Mee @ Damansara Uptown, PJ

Uptown Damansara is certainly famous for a place whereby no parking. Not only that, as recently there are alot of eateries that open in this area. Not to neglact those are well establish such as their famous Hokkien Mee in this area. Restaurant Damansara Uptown Hokkien Mee is one of a signature place to be when you are craving for this. I usually dine the other outlet and this is my first time coming here after a while.

uptown (1)

Right after 8pm, you can see they are starting to expand their tables and chairs to the road side and as it gets latter at night, more and more people will flock to this eatery. It is even worst when comes to weekend as many clubbers will stop here for their supper.

uptown (2)

In their preparation of ingredients, they have already prepare mountain high ingredients to cater for all this hungry folks.

uptown (3)

Imagine the noodles are being stir fried in this massive customize cooking pot & stove.

uptown (4)

The roast duck do look tempting and decided to give it a try. However there are others that are better. @ RM 18 which is pretty expensive.

uptown (5)

uptown (6)

Here is their famous Stir Fried Hokkien Mee (KL version) as we Penangnites call it ‘Tua Pui Mee’ (fat Noodle) @ RM 7. Quite a decent plate that stir with dark sauce and filled with wok hei. The difference for this noodle compare to the other outlet is that the dark soy sauce taste slightly more sweet and fragrant compare to the other.

uptown (7)

For chicken wings I love the other outlet better.

uptown (8)

Their Kam Hiong Clams was a let down.

uptown (9)

The trick is to add in their homemade chili paste into it and for the pork lard, you need to add in RM0.50 more for it. Its not crispy and fragrant.

For both outlet, there are flaws here and there and overall food range they have, I prefer the other outlet. However for this outlet, I prefer their Stir Fried Hokkien Mee.

Tai Tong (1)

When I first saw this whisky in a magazine and I was looking high and down for its brand in both our KLIA and KLIA 2 airport when I was travelling. To much disappointed it is not available and one point that make me look for high and low is because is a Malaysian own company that have purchase this whisky yard in Scotland. FIFTY SIX DEGREES Whisky, can be consider a new whisky brand in town. It is a Scotch blended whisky, consisting of single malts and a single-grain whisky, aged in American bourbon oak casks and finished in sherry casks. Distilled and  blended in Scotland by Ian Macleod Distillers, and then shipped to Malaysia to be bottled.

More of them at their website – Fifty Six Degrees

Tai Tong (2)

The night kick off with simple cocktail  ..

Tai Tong (3)

Their soup never disappoints as the Double boiled Village Chicken Soup with Apricot Kernels and Snow Pear is pungent in taste as snow pear do lift up the sweet end of it.  I wish I can have another bowl.

Tai Tong (4)

Tai Tong (5)

Spice Roast Suckling Pig is irristable. It is even better when we have whisky on hand as this have a little twist in it to go along with whisky with its little spices to bring the aroma of whisky out. Pretty good stuff. No doubt that roast pig is done to perfection that meat is soft and skin is perfect and crips.

Surprise me is that they have this Chilled Ambarella Juice Shooter served as the palate cleanser after the spice roast pig.

Tai Tong (6)

Tai Tong (7)

During our dinner, we were pamper with great classic Chinese music.

Tai Tong (8)

Tai Tong (9)

Yin Yang Estuary Tiger Grouper. Grilled with caramelized onion and sauteed with XO sauce, celery and apple. Done in 2 different method.

Tai Tong (10)

This dish amaze every one as it is consider pretty luxury as on the plate we have braised abalone, together with a whole piece of sea cucumber stuffed with tuna and wanton

Tai Tong (11)

For dessert we have Chilled Layered Dessert of Black Sesame, Mango and Fresh Milk, Mini Pumpkin Dumpling with sweet potato and cheese, and the Sweet Corn Bun sprinkled with Cocoa Powder. Interesting combination.

At RM1,888 nett per table, you get a chinese banquet and TWO bottle of 56 Degrees as the promo is on running.

Xiang Fu Xiang Cheng Hunan Chinese Restaurant @ The Scots Garden, Old Klang Road

I am a big fan of spicy food. If you mention anything about Sze Chuan food, I would rarely decline your invitation to go for foot hunt. This was a recent thing that my best friend bought me to this place as we ran out of ideas on what to eat. Located facing the main road of Old Klang Road, at level one you will find this Xiang Fu Xiang Cheng Hunan Chinese Restaurant.

Hunan (1)

Its a shop that sells pretty authentic Hunan food which means most of their food is spicy base but not as spicy as Sze Chuan yet for this you can still taste the aromatic of their classic flavours.

Hunan (2)

Hunan (3)

Price here are pretty decent base on the portion that they are serving.

Hunan (4)

Their signature soup is not to be missed – Signature Pig Stomach Chicken Soup (Big) @ RM 108 serve nearly 10 pax. Pungent in flavour, slightly thick, making your stomach warm with hits sweet base from those cooking hours that they have.

Hunan (5)

Next is their Signature Braised Pork @ RM 38. Cook in their clear soy base, pork cook to perfection as its so soft that fats nearly melt in your mouth, as the soy base gravy I drink it like soup as it mix with salted veggie at the base.

Hunan (6)

Hunan (7)

Hot Plate Japanese Tofu @ RM 18. Pretty decent as serve with pippin hot plate, with a bed of bean sprouts at the bottom and their home made gravy is great.

Hunan (8)

Stir Fried Choy Sum @ RM 15 is just a plate of normal fried vegetable.

Hunan (9)

This is another dish must not miss as Tiger Stripes Pork Braised Meat @ RM 22. Cook differently as this gravy is thick, slightly sweet with salty end. Pork quality here seems pretty good.

Hunan (10)

Hunan (11)

Another of my favourite is Sour Pickled Vegetable Fish (fish you can chose fish of the day or better quality) Forgot what is the fish we oredered as the whole fish + this is RM 68. Mild spicy of dry chilli, salted sour soup base with salted vegetable, garlic cloves and some Sze Chuan Spice.

Currently this is one of my favourite China food that offer pretty good food and price is reasonable. Came here 3 times in a row.

Good Hakka Restaurant @ Bandar Bukit Raja, Klang

Klang is like another new dimension where I would not drive there unless for a specific reasons. I was persuaded to come along to try out this home cook Hakka food place in this new neighbourhood, Bandar Bukit Raja, Klang

Good Hakka (1)

Good Hakka (2)

It is a pretty straight forward kind of dining and only 2 page of menu for you to flip through.

Good Hakka (3)

Good Hakka (11)

Moving back slightly, how it all got started is by their well know Yong Tau fu Series and since then move with Hakka and local cuisine.

Good Hakka (15)

Good Hakka (4)

Good Hakka (5)

Hakka Pork Vineger Trotter is one of a classic dish that the chef had learn from. To us, we are used to heavy ginger however the original taste for this is end with mild sweetness for it. It is all cook to perfection where ingredients in it is soft, tender and juicy. @ RM 15 for small and RM 30 for big

Good Hakka (6)

Good Hakka (7)

Another chef recommendation dish would be classic Hakka dish know was Yam Abacus @ RM 12 for small, RM 22 for big. This dish might look small in portion, however the dept of the bowl is deep and using nearly pure yam ingredients, wit hours of cooking to make it soft, slightly chewy and along with mince pork sauce will automatically keep you going.

Good Hakka (8)

Hakka Braised Pork @ RM 12 for small, RM 24 for big.

Good Hakka (9)

Slightly off from their authentic dish is their Rendang Pork @ RM 12 for small, RM 24 for big. Mild spicy, yet curry fragrant and pork is cook to soft and tender is something that will goes very well with rice.

Good Hakka (10)

Sotong Sambal Petai serve with sizzling plate @ RM 18 for Small, RM 36 for big.

Good Hakka (12)

Another signature style cooking which is their Red Snapper cook in Hakka Style. Gravy is not too salty, just nice to go along with rice, you can taste the sweetness from fish and its a perfect balance.

Good Hakka (13)

One of a highly recommended by their staff and also would be by me is their Salted Egg Stuffed Taufupok @ RM 12 for small and RM 24 for big. I can finish the big plate by myself, as it is cook to perfection, well coated salted egg yolk on the side and right in the middle it is stuff with mince pork.

Good Hakka (14)

their very own Assam Pranw with sizzling plate.

Good Hakka (16)

Good Hakka (17)

Another classic version is their Signature Mantis Prawn Salted Egg @ RM 16 for small, RM 30 for big. The difference of the ingredient use with be their mantis prawn as they are using slightly better qualities and the white version. So when it is cook, the salted egg is hard to stick onto the prawn and after a while, it might turn slightly soggy. Mantis prawn is fresh!

Good Hakka (18)

One of my favorite drink in this place is their Home Made Ice Lemon Tea. The catch of this is their tea as they are using Pu Er tea as the tea base. Refreshing, yet simple.

Love their whole series of food which I think it is worth to drop by for a try. Interesting enough as the chef do not use any MSG.

Kuchai Lama is one of my favourite area when it comes to food. Filled with numerous f&b joints that you can hunt for and of course after a while now I think its time to share one of my favorite dessert shop in Kuchai Lama that serve Hong Kong dessert version.

Lets Joy (1)

To some of neighborhood folks, this outlet might not be stranger to you, as off other Hong Kong desserts shop out there that you can find, I still think Let’s Joy still remain their consistency and of course their pricing is very reasonable.

Lets Joy (2)

They have lovely ambiance, one side of the shop which is pretty casual and another side of the shop is nicely or cutely decorated up.

Lets Joy (3)

Lets Joy (4)

You will be pamper with series of their dessert range ranging from local to Hong Kong version.

Lets Joy (5)

Peanut Paste @ RM 4.90

Lets Joy (6)

Taufufa with Taroballs

Lets Joy (7)

Creamy wheat soup

Lets Joy (8)

Red Bean Soup and Water Chestnut

Lets Joy (9)

One of my favourite – Snow Moutain Pamelo and Sago in Mango Sweet Soup @ RM 8.90

Lets Joy (10)

Hot Pudding

Lets Joy (11)

Lets Joy (12)

Their Chocolate Lava can consider one of the best I came across for cafe version as they have the most consistent texture, brownie and oozing flowing of warm chocolate and best of all is only RM 10.90.

I have tried many of their stuff and I still think its worth to share as whenever you are craving for nice decent local dessert with mango series, this is the place to be. The only thing I have yet to try is their local food such as nasi lemak and others.

Klang Bak Kut Teh @ Restaurant Chow Kiat

Klang is another town that is pack with great food. Just done a photoshoot in the morning and suddenly thought of why not we have breakfast at Klang with their famous Bak Kut Teh. Of course Rif and Sue Lynn then bring me to one of their favourite place.

Klang Bkt (1)

Restaurant Chow Kiat is one of a famous Bak Kut Teh place that is pretty well known to the folks around the area. Most of them are regular and every one in Klang speaks Hokkien.

Klang Bkt (2)

Klang Bkt (3)

For this shop, they are famous for their big bone and also chicken feet.

Klang Bkt (4)

Klang Bkt (5)

Its a place which is pack with families and mature folks. Alot of them do bring their own tea leaves for their drinking pleasure while eating their pippin hot Bak Kut Teh.

Klang Bkt (6)

This is our Big Bone with a great amount of fats and also meat is super soft. Another bowl is a well balance of meat and fats.

Klang Bkt (7)

Lets eat. Classic Bak Kut Teh Style in this ship is by serving a small bowl with limited soup in it. Best of all is a free refill of soup where you can keep on requesting. Soup is slightly clear and taste of mild herbs and dark soy sauce is there (or I might be wrong) as I have stronger palate for my Bak Kut Teh where I need it pack with herbal taste. (this do not really apply in Klang area)

Klang Bkt (8)

I would advise you to reach before 9am as by the time we reach at 9am, most of the parts that we wanted were gone, and we were lucky to enjoy these last 2 pieces of bone.
